Helgen- Helgen was a city once laid waste to a dragon attack and then occupied by bandits. It is now the Guildhall and home of The Watcher's for the fact the Jarl was willing to sell the land plot so cheaply and the fact it had a keep worth repairing and occupying. Many rooms now fill the halls, barracks, an armory, a training hall, kitchen, and dining hall. Everything a large group would need, as well as the Guildmaster's quarters but beware its been labeled off-limits.

Night of a thousand stars (A romance/Sex RP)(1x1 M/F)

[IDC your gender IRL, as long as your character is a straight male that fits the desc]

Name:Aly Lyndel
Age:16
Physical Characteristics: Black hair, grey eyes, Slim and tall. Black Fox ears and tail
Personality: Shy, sweet, calm,soft-spoken

The bell rang and everybody left class, Aly and her cat friend Carla rushed out of class with the crowd, Carla laughed "Oh man, that was hilarious, can you believe Mrs. Burgman is so deaf she didn't hear anyone yell 'penis'?" We both laughed hysterically, just then her boyfriend Brad came up "Oh see you later, Aly!" She walked off cuddling Brad, her tail swishing happily. "B-bye" I said, sighing as I walked home alone.

Carla was a good friend and all, but she has tons of other friends, not to mention her boyfriend. It seemed everyone had tons of friends, or at least just their boyfriend. She just had Carla, but she didn't just have her, and as for boyfriends, she probably couldn't talk to a boy to save her life. The most awkward thing however, was Carly always talked about losing her virginity to Brad and sex with Brad, to which she had no idea at all about.

That friday night after school, she took a walk to a field of grass, it was far from the houses and away from just about everyone. She sat in the center of the field and laid on her back, she watched the stars twinkle, a scintillating blanked of beauty, led by the glowing disc of the moon. She sighed, for once she wished there was someone that she would be just as important to as they were to her.

Millions in stolen art recovered in LA area

By Samantha Tata, NBCLosAngeles.com

Millions of dollars in contemporary art was recovered Wednesday after a tipster led Santa Monica police to an automotive electronics store in Pasadena and then to at least two residences, police said Thursday.

The art belongs to bond-fund manager Jeff Gundlach, whose Santa Monica home was burglarized earlier this month.

Most of the paintings were found during a search of Al & Ed?s Autosound located at 30 S. Rosemead Boulevard in Pasadena, according to Santa Monica police. The store?s manager, 45-year-old Jay Jeffrey, of Canyon Country, was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property.

Detectives were then led to a San Gabriel residence, where investigators found four of the stolen paintings. There, Wilmer Bolosan Cadiz, 40, was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property.

The last painting was found at a Glendale residence, police said. The person who had that painting has been interviewed by police and is cooperating with investigators.

Gundlach, the founder of DoubleLine Capital, said the recovery marked a "great day for the art world and all those who seek order and justice in our society."

"My gratitude goes out to Detective David Haro and the entire Santa Monica Police Department for their skillful, tireless and respectful attention to apprehending the criminals and recovering all of the artwork stolen," he said in a statement. "I would also like to thank the many well wishers who offered support and whose optimism over the last two weeks proved accurate."

On Monday, Gundlach offered $1.7 million for information leading to the successful return of the artwork undamaged. It was not immediately known who would receive the reward.

The bulk of the reward ? $1 million of it ? is dedicated solely to the safe return of ?Composition (A) En Rouge Et Blanc,? an oil-on-canvas piece by Piet Mondrian circa 1936. Another $500,000 is for a 1956 Jasper John?s collage titled ?Green Target.?

"If the people that turn in the tip were part of the burglary they will not receive a single penny," according to Gundlach. "However, if they were righteous people, they will receive every penny."

Still, not all of the stolen property has been recovered, police said.

Gundlach returned to his home in the 500 block of 12th Street on Sept. 14 to find it?d been burglarized while he was away on a trip, investigators said.

Egypt's Morsi assumes major role in Mideast

UNITED NATIONS (AP) ? Egypt's new President Mohammed Morsi assigned himself the heavyweight's role in the Middle East on Wednesday, declaring in his first speech to the United Nations that the civil war raging in Syria is the "tragedy of the age" and must be brought to an end.

In a wide-ranging address that touched on all major issues confronting the region, Morsi also decried Israeli settlement-building on territory Palestinians claim for a future state and condemned a film produced in the United States that denigrates Islam's Prophet Muhammad.

He urged all U.N. member nations to join in an effort to end what he called "the catastrophe in Syria" that pits the regime of Bashar Assad against opposition forces trying to end 40 years of dictatorship. More than 30,000 people have been killed in the 18-month conflict.

Morsi has called for Assad to step down and said Wednesday that "the bloodshed in Syria and the humanitarian crisis that has unfolded must be stopped."

Morsi, an Islamist and key member of the once-banned Muslim Brotherhood, opened his remarks to the U.N. General Assembly by celebrating himself as Egypt's first democratically elected leader who was swept into office after what he called a "great, peaceful revolution" that overthrew Hosni Mubarak.

He then quickly inserted himself into the thorniest issues in the Middle East, demanding that the United Nations grant membership to the Palestinians, with or without a peace agreement with Israel.

"The fruits of dignity and freedom must not remain far from the Palestinian people," he said, adding that it was "shameful" that U.N. resolutions are not enforced.

The Palestinians are expected to again ask for U.N. recognition and formally make application to the world body in November, after the U.S. presidential election. President Barack Obama said when the Palestinians sought recognition last year that Washington would block the move until there was a peace deal with Israel. The focus of Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, which have been on hold for four years, is a two-state solution that would formally grant the Palestinians the rights of an independent country.

In his bid to end the violence in Syria, Morsi has invited Turkey, Iran and Saudi Arabia to join a contact group, though the Saudis have not yet participated and the fighting in Syria continues unabated. While Morsi wants Assad to step aside, he said Wednesday that he opposes any foreign military intervention.

The U.N. Security Council, which could call for intervention or global sanctions against Syria, is deadlocked because Russia, Assad's main protector, and China have blocked a series of resolutions brought by Western governments.

Morsi also denounced as an obscenity the anti-Islam video that portrays the Prophet Muhammad as a womanizer, a child molester and a fraud, insisting that freedom of expression does not allow for attacks on any religion.

He also condemned the violence that swept Muslim countries last week in reaction to the video. At least 51 people were killed, including the U.S. ambassador to Libya and three other Americans targeted in an attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi.

"Egypt respects freedom of expression. One that is not used to incite hatred against anyone. One that is not directed toward one specific religion or culture. A freedom of expression that tackles extremism and violence. Not the freedom of expression that deepens ignorance and disregards others," Morsi said.

He appeared to have been responding to Obama's General Assembly speech Tuesday in which the U.S. leader again condemned the video but sternly defended the U.S. Constitution's free speech guarantees.

In Cairo, Egyptians watched Morsi's speech closely for signs of how he would conduct his presidency. Abdel-Mohsen, a 31-year architect, praised Morsi's condemnation of the Assad regime, but questioned his assertions about free speech.

"How can he talk about freedom of expression when there are many protesters in detention in Egypt, including minors, and when people are locked up for the so-called contempt of religion?" she said.

The head of the Arab League, meanwhile, called for the international community to criminalize blasphemy, warning that insults to religion pose a serious threat to global peace and security.

Nabil Elaraby's comments to a special session of the U.N. Security Council put him at direct odds with the United States and its Western allies, which are resolutely opposed to restrictions on freedom of expression. However, Elaraby said that if the West has criminalized acts that result in bodily harm, it must also criminalize acts that cause "psychological and spiritual harm."

Earlier Wednesday, Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, known for past fiery denunciations of the United States and Israel, spoke at length about his vision for a new world order without the "hegemony of arrogance."

Of Israel, he cited what he termed the "continued threat by the uncivilized Zionists to resort to military action against our great nation."

The U.S. delegation boycotted Ahmadinejad's speech in response to the "paranoid theories and repulsive slurs against Israel" included in a separate address delivered by the Iranian president on Monday.

"It's particularly unfortunate that Mr. Ahmadinejad will have the platform of the U.N. General Assembly on Yom Kippur, which is why the United States has decided not to attend," Erin Pelton, spokeswoman for the U.S. Mission to the U.N., said in a statement.

Thousands of protesters in yellow vests emblazoned with photos of Iranian dissidents they said were killed by the Iranian regime gathered outside U.N. headquarters during the Iranian leader's speech. Speakers included former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Rep. Carolyn Maloney, D-NY, and former Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I.

In his speech on Wednesday, Ahmadinejad did not refer to Iran's nuclear program. Israel and Western nations contend that Tehran is using what it insists is a peaceful nuclear program as a cover for developing the ability to build atomic weapons.

Tough sanctions have been imposed on Iran as punishment for its failure to cooperate with the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency to prove the peaceful nature of its drive to enrich uranium to levels that could be used to build a nuclear weapon.

Israel has threatened a military strike against Iranian nuclear installations, but Obama insists there is still time to solve the dispute through diplomacy. He has vowed, however, to stop Tehran from obtaining a nuclear arsenal.

Outside the U.N., Alex Mohammed, 40, a restaurant manager from Chicago, stood next to a mock jail cell with a noose next to it, and a cartoon of Ahmadinejad standing under a series of hanged Iranians' legs and the inscription: "We don't have political prisoners in Iran ? anymore."

"It's getting worse in Iran, because the dictator is taking away more freedoms, including freedom of speech, and jailing journalists," said Mohammed, who has family in Tehran.

Bayer wins early U.S. approval for colon cancer drug

(Reuters) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday approved a new drug for advanced colon cancer developed by Bayer AG, a month ahead of the agency's expected action date for a decision.

The drug, to be sold under the brand name Stivarga, was approved to treat colon cancer that has progressed after prior treatment or that has spread to other parts of the body, the agency said.

"Someone has clearly lit a fire under the FDA," Sanford Bernstein analyst Geoffrey Porges said of the speedy approval. "We're seeing a fairly consistent pattern of drugs for high unmet needs diseases being approved on an expedited basis."

Bayer said Stivarga will be ready for distribution as soon as Friday and set a wholesale price for the drug of $9,350 for a 28-day cycle of treatment.

In pivotal clinical trials, Stivarga - known chemically as regorafenib - helped severely ill patients live on average 1.4 months longer than those who received standard treatment without the Bayer drug. Stivarga plus standard care also delayed tumor growth for an average of two months compared with 1.7 months for standard care alone.

Bayer is currently awaiting a colon cancer approval decision for the drug in Europe and is also seeking U.S. approval of regorafenib as a treatment for gastrointestinal stromal tumors.

"Stivarga is the latest colorectal cancer treatment to demonstrate an ability to extend patients' lives and is the second drug approved for patients with colorectal cancer in the past two months," Richard Pazdur, director of the Office of Hematology and Oncology Products in FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research, said in a statement.

In August, the FDA approved Zaltrap, an advanced colon cancer treatment from Sanofi SA and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals.

Onyx Pharmaceuticals Inc is entitled to a 20 percent royalty payment on global net sales of Stivarga under a settlement agreement with Bayer following a dispute over how closely related the medicine is to Nexavar, the kidney and liver cancer drug that the companies co-developed and share.

Bayer and Onyx will jointly promote Stivarga in the United States.

Porges, Bernstein's biotechnology analyst, called the Onyx royalty agreement, "a fairly attractive deal."

But he said initial sales expectations for Stivarga are relatively modest "because this is really a relatively small indication late in the disease."

However, Morningstar analyst Damien Conover forecast sales of the drug reaching $1 billion by 2020. Bayer declined to provide its own sales forecast for the medicine.

"Bayer has very high expectations for Stivarga," Shannon Campbell, head of oncology for Bayer Healthcare, said in a telephone interview. "We certainly expect that Stivarga is going to play an important role once (patients) have gone through some of the more standard infusion based chemotherapies that are out there."

Stivarga is a pill that works by blocking several enzymes that promote cancer growth.

The drug was reviewed under the FDA's priority review program that provides an expedited six-month review for drugs that offer major advances in treatment or that provide treatment when no adequate therapy exists. A decision had been expected by October 27.

The Stivarga label will include a warning that severe and fatal liver toxicity occurred in some patients treated with the medicine during clinical studies, the FDA said.

In addition to Zaltrap, Stivarga will likely also compete with Roche Holding AG's multibillion-dollar cancer drug Avastin and Erbitux from Bristol-Myers Squibb Co and Eli Lilly and Co.

An estimated 143,460 Americans will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer, and 51,690 will die from the disease in 2012, according to the National Institutes of Health.

Garner: Affleck's 'a wonder sperm kind of guy'

By Josh Grossberg, E! Online

Mike Segar / Reuters file

Jennifer Garner and husband Ben Affleck.

Talk about oversharing. Appearing on Thursday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Jennifer Garner offers a powerful glimpse into hubby Ben Affleck's powers of procreation when DeGeneres asked the actress if she's pregnant and whether she thinks the couple would ever expand their brood beyond the three kids they have.

"No, I definitely ... I plan to be done. But my husband is kind of a wonder sperm kind of guy," says the "Valentine's Day" star.

Considering the twosome met on the set of their 2003 superhero flick, "Daredevil," maybe super spawn isn't out of the question.?

Garner also tells the host about how much she enjoys taking care of their 6-month-old son, Samuel, and Ben playing with their two daughters, 6-year-old Violet and 3-year-old Seraphina.

"You know his girls are so into him," said Garner. "He's all about ..."

"Tea parties," quipped DeGeneres.

"He kind of excels at playing baby doll," the 40-year-old actress said.

Garner is quick to add that she and Affleck are no match at parenting compared to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

"Oh man ... talk to Brad and Angie. They seem to have it together," joked Garner.

"I don't know how they remember all the names," cracked Ellen. "They have like 10 kids."

More from E: See more pics of mamas and their cute chicks?

Said Jen: "I call my kids Shiloh sometimes."

Garner returns to theaters in the upcoming ensemble comedy, Butter, opening Oct. 5.

Self Improvement | Punchy Tips for Building Self-Confidence, Self ...

By Mike I McClement -

1. Know what you look like

Find out how people perceive you? if you look as though you lack confidence, then people will treat you as though you do. In other words, you?re already on the back foot and it?ll be a lot harder to get people to listen to you.

2. Sort out your body language

Like it or not, people suss you out quickly, mostly by taking in your body language and sound. So get yourself in front of a mirror and be honest with yourself. Do you look confident? If not, why not? Then practise looking confident. Look at your posture, your facial expression, your clothing? Sounds mad but it works.

3. Don?t say sorry

Are you a serial sorry sayer? A lot of people who lack confidence are. They apologise for everything. Well don?t. Only apologise if your actions warrant an apology. Some people prefix everything they say with a ?sorry?. This is completely unnecessary and suggests you doubt yourself. You might as well hang a sign around your neck saying ?I lack confidence?.

4. Remember you?re not unusual

Realise that you?re not unusual. Even truly confident people have their ups and downs. They accept this as part of life. An embarrassing situation is an embarrassing situation.. so what? It happened, there?s nothing you can change about it. So learn from it and move on.

5. Be realistic

Accept that you?re not unlucky. No one was born confident. Confidence is a skill you can actually learn. Accept this and start to learn. Just like any other skill, it requires practice and self-discipline to get good at it. We can all do it as long as we accept the challenge.

6. Think positively

Understand your mindset. Be honest with yourself? are you a positive or negative thinker? Are you a pessimist or an optimist? This is important. It?s impossible to feel and look confident if you approach life negatively. A problem is a challenge, a mistake is a lesson to be learnt, a failure is a fact of life.

7. Know where you?re going

You?ll achieve little, if nothing if you don?t have a focus. So work out what you want to achieve, both at home and at work and write down a plan. Think strategically (say over 2 years) and more tactically (say 6 months). One leads on from the other ? think strategically first and then decide what you need to do tactically to achieve this.

8. Be happy

Think carefully about what makes you happy and get some of it. Confident people tend to be happy people ? just watch them and you?ll see. That?s because they?ve found a balance between the things they have to do and the things like doing. They?re also realists. They accept that life is life and there are some things that just have to be done but they don?t let these bog them down.

9. Smile more

Sounds mad but it?s true. Smiling really does help you to feel and look more confident. Someone who walks into a room smiling looks confident. It?s a fact. It?s also true that smiling actually makes you feel happier. It releases endorphins into your system. This even happens when you make yourself smile? So it?s worth the effort.

10. Control your emotions

Control your emotions but don?t stifle them. Think about how you let them out. Don?t make a fool of yourself. Take a deep breath, maybe a few minutes too and then explain your feelings in a controlled way. Confident people have the self-control to do this.

A 'Carmageddon' noise test

Sherman Oaks resident Bob Anderson recalls the Friday of Carmageddon as "wonderful" and "quiet," despite all the warnings of a traffic nightmare.

He enjoyed a glass of wine with his wife, watched TV and drifted peacefully into a sound slumber without the sounds of cars zipping down the northbound 405 freeway near his house. Then the roar of a helicopter jolted Anderson awake at 11 p.m.

"It sat above our house for two hours until 1 a.m. Then it went away," Anderson said. "We were thrilled, slept for a couple hours, and then it came back at 5 a.m."

Anderson was angry enough to grab a pair of binoculars and call the news station that owned the helicopter to complain. More than a year after the closure of a section of the 405 Freeway to remove the southern half of the aging Mulholland Drive bridge, Anderson has become the chairman of the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Assn.'s Helicopter Noise Committee, a position he has used to demand that those flying over this weekend's sequel "stop having wine and cheese parties on helicopters to watch the bridge come down."

Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, U.S. Rep. Howard Berman and Assemblyman Mike Feuer (D-Los Angeles) joined Anderson earlier this week in asking that pilots flying above the closure of 10 miles of the 405 between the 10 and 101 freeways be mindful of residents. The officials asked operators not to hover over homes, and to fly higher.

Mike Cavender, executive director of the Radio Television Digital News Assn., cautioned it would be "difficult" to set an "arbitrary limit" before an event.

"You use whatever angle or whatever distance or whatever location for the photo or video that will best illustrate your story," he said. "I would expect the media in Los Angeles to take note of the concern, but ultimately if it's a newsworthy story they're covering, they have an obligation to cover it."

After the first closure, Berman (D-Valley Village) introduced legislation that would require the Federal Aviation Administration to establish rules on flight paths and minimum altitudes for helicopter operations in Los Angeles. The proposal has stalled.

Berman said helicopter pilots have asked to move away from regulation and toward voluntary compliance.

"Next weekend is a very important test of whether self-restraint and self-regulation will make it better for the people whose quality of life has been damaged," Berman said.

Strength Training Exercises | Bodybuilding, Supplements, Diets ...

Strength training is the use of resistance to muscular contraction to build the strength, anaerobic endurance, and size of skeletal muscles. There are many different methods of strength training, the most common being the use of gravity or elastic/hydraulic forces to oppose muscle contraction. See the resistance training article for information about elastic/hydraulic training, but note that the terms ?strength training? and ?resistance training? are often used interchangeably.
When properly performed, strength training can provide significant functional benefits and improvement in overall health and well-being, including increased bone, muscle, tendon and ligament strength and toughness, improved joint function, reduced potential for injury, increased bone density, a temporary increase in metabolism, improved cardiac function, and elevated HDL (good) cholesterol. Training commonly uses the technique of progressively increasing the force output of the muscle through incremental increases of weight, elastic tension or other resistance, and uses a variety of exercises and types of equipment to target specific muscle groups. Strength training is primarily an anaerobic activity, although some proponents have adapted it to provide the benefits of aerobic exercise through circuit training.
Strength training differs from bodybuilding, weightlifting, powerlifting, and strongman, which are sports rather than forms of exercise, although training for them is inherently interconnected with strength training, as it is for shotput, discus, and Highland games. Many other sports use strength training as part of their training regimen, notably football, wrestling, rugby, rowing, lacrosse, basketball, hockey, and track and field.

Hard Work Gets You Organic Placement

There is no magic wand, no secret recipe, or for that matter special protocol you should follow or buy to have your website appear in the top unpaid search results on Google. In fact, do too much of optimization for placement and you'll run right into Google's "over optimization" filter and be dropped back as much as 50 to 100 pages in the search results.

So what is a website owner to do? First off, the bottom-line is you can't scam or buy your way to top placement on Google.com. In this new world of post Panda and Penguin algorithm updates, it is readable natural content that Google wants; no keyword dense content, no heavy use of keyword phrases in the heading and subheading tags, and certainly no aggressive link building strategies.

Matt Cutts, the Google representative to my industry, says this about organic placement:

"Key phrases don't have to be in their original form. We do a lot of synonym work so that we can find good pages that don't happen to use the same words as the user typed."

"People can overdo it [using meta tags and headings that are keyword dense] to the point that we consider it keyword stuffing, and it hurts. I would just make sure you do it in natural ways where regular people aren't going to find it stiff or artificial. That tends to be what works best."

It is Soap Dish time again my friends and this week I am dishing all about the cast shake-ups at The Young & The Restless. It has been quite a couple of weeks for the hit CBS soap and I have lots to say about it. The comings and goings at Y&R have been in full force. Soap vet Genie Francis was let go. Although it is being touted as budget reasons and storyline reasons there are rumors that the powers that be at CBS didn’t mesh with the Emmy winning actress. Personally Genie is one of the reasons I started watching Y&R again and I think she rocks. Next up Debbie Morgan was axed. She broke the news herself via Twitter. Word on the street was the actress and her character never caught on with the fans. I have to say I don’t necessarily disagree with this outing, love Debbie but it wasn’t a good fit. Then there was the firing of Lindsay Bushman. That is right Summer Newman is out but that doesn’t mean she won’t be replaced. If you follow Lindsay on Twitter you know what I mean by that. Those are of course the two major [...]

Porsche is one of the world's biggest car manufacturers---hands down. But the debate enters when one says that a Porsche is the best car in the world. Of course fans of other brands would argue, claiming that their cars are the best...but none compares to the milestones that Porsche embedded on the road.

Since its early beginning, the would-be famous father of cars Ferdinand Porsche created remarkable firsts in the car industry, and in the world. It was in the 1900's when he created the Lohner-Porsche electric car at the World Fair in Paris. The wheel hub engines of the young engineer brought him international attention. Within the same year, he had created the world's first-ever hybrid petrol/electric vehicle, at the same time developing all-wheel drive race cars. At this rate, Porsche has made a remarkable advancement for its name. Soon after, Porsche began to create ingenious Grand Prix race cars and different variations of different, innovative sports cars.

The more than 100 years that Porsche dedicated to creating cars that take on a really smooth journey has developed to the creation of sublime car parts as well. One of the important processes that takes place in a car is the process of the cooling system. Chemical energy has to be turned into mechanical power, and Porsche understands that. Most of the energy in the gasoline is converted into heat, so therefore, it is the important task of the cooling system to take care of that heat. No worries about a Porsche overheating, when it careens down the freeway all the driver has to think about is the road-and how lucky he is to be in a Porsche. One major factor that contributes to this are the Porsche Radiators.

The Porsche Radiators is a heat exchanging device designed to transfer heat from the hot coolant that runs through it to the air and blown through it by the cooling fan. As the car moves, the radiator's fa?ade is also cooled by the outside air coming from the grille. Sometimes, a collapsed lower radiator hose or a defective radiator cap causes overheating. So it is very important that when doing a radiator maintenance, also check the two radiator components. A simple preventive maintenance does a lot for the Porsche Radiators to fulfill its task flawlessly. Having the Porsche Radiators flushed periodically as well as having the components of a car's cooling system changed when one part needs replacing can help a lot in ensuring the car's peak-level performance. The Porsche radiators are indeed made only by the best and finest material from the world's finest car maker.

The world's finest race cars hail from Porsche, with a lot of competitions and endurance race titles under its belt. For every decade that Porsche saw through, it made one cornerstone in the history of automobiles after another. Indeed, the milestones that the name Porsche has made is much of an accomplishment that other cars will never be able to surpass, even if they tried.

Prep hockey growing in Washington area, but many top players still leave

Chris Bond used to awaken to his mother's voice, eat a mom-made breakfast, back out of his Centreville garage and drive off to school to join classmates and ice hockey teammates he had known for years.

But as a senior in search of a college hockey scholarship, the All-Met defenseman from Bishop O'Connell felt compelled to give up his familiar lifestyle, like so many Washington hockey prospects before him.

After moving in with strangers in Kansas for this school year, Bond now wakes himself, makes his own breakfast, scrapes the Topeka frost off his silver 2004 Saturn Vue and passes horses and silos en route to Washburn Rural High School. There he pads through hallways with students he has little contact with outside of school.

After classes, Bond reports to the Topeka RoadRunners of the North American Hockey League, the only high school student on a team whose season stretches from September until as late as May.

As a teenage hockey refugee, Bond is following a path similar to many of the Washington area's top young talents, an exodus unique to their sport. Players for years have skated off to Northeast prep schools or Midwest junior hockey towns where the competition is faster and more physical and the spotlight greater.

With the growth of youth hockey in Washington in recent years, it is not as obvious of a decision as it used to be. But the road out is still the road most taken.

"I felt that leaving would give me more opportunity to pursue my dream of playing college hockey and give me more exposure to college coaches than playing in D.C. would," said Bond, 18, who is taking an online religion course so he can graduate from O'Connell this spring.

"We knew last year that he had reached the top of the food chain as far as hockey goes here in the local area," said Robert Bond, Chris's father, who along with wife Diane visits his son every month or so and watches the Topeka games online. "We had been preparing emotionally and mentally for him to go away. As hockey players and hockey parents, you get used to doing that because that's what you have to do."

Ten of 15 Washington-area players currently competing in Division I men's hockey left home before or during their high school careers to attend schools elsewhere.

Two of the three juniors on last year's All-Met team -- Bond and former Gonzaga goalkeeper Matt Tyler -- bypassed their senior years to take what they thought were the necessary steps to better secure their hockey futures.

That transition extends well beyond the rink, from the mundane -- as a public school student, Bond has to pick out clothes instead of slipping into the standard private school attire he had worn for years -- to the major.

"You go from somewhere you had good friends you've known for a while, kind of a big man at school, and now you just go into a brand-new school as a senior where no one knows you," said Tyler, who moved with his mother to the Chicago area, where he is playing for Team Illinois and attending Hinsdale Central High. "Everyone already has their foundation friends, so it's hard to put yourself into those groups when you have such a strict schedule you're keeping to."
